Protecting what matters most
Diane Dixon possesses a diversity of legal and life experience that enables her to serve clients with a wide range of legal, business, and life issues.
Diane has practiced law since 1986. Her early legal career was with Provident Life & Accident Insurance Company as an investment attorney. She represented the company's interests in multi-million dollar loan transactions secured by commercial real estate developments including office buildings, apartment complexes, office warehouse developments, shopping centers, and hotels, located in multiple jurisdictions throughout the country. After a few years of transactional work, Diane began to specialize in workouts of problem loans, employing strategies ranging from loan modifications to judicial and non-judicial foreclosures, enforcement of guarantees, and bankruptcy litigation. She also worked on the sale and lease of company owned real estate. She was employed at Provident from 1987 to 1994.
After taking time off to concentrate on parenting her children, Diane resumed the practice of law as a solo practitioner, primarily working on commercial real estate transactions. She increasingly found herself approached by clients for help with more personal legal issues and found the greatest personal and professional satisfaction in such representation. As a consequence, she has expanded into estate planning, wills and trusts, estate administration, business entity formation, and business succession planning for small business owners.
Teaching has been a gratifying part of Diane's professional life. She is an adjunct faculty member at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in the Legal Assistant Studies program and taught in the Paralegal Studies program at Chattanooga State. She loves to teach the law and to contribute to the personal and professional growth of students. She has been recognized by the Tennessee Paralegal Association for her contribution to the paralegal profession.
Diane is a member of the Tennessee Bar Association, Chattanooga Bar Association, WealthCounsel, and the Estate Planning Council of Chattanooga. She serves on the Advisory Committee of the Legal Assistant Studies program at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Diane is a member of the Chattanooga Chapter of PFLAG (Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays).
Diane was born and grew up in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in social work from the University of Memphis. Her first career was working with juvenile offenders in the criminal justice system in Memphis. While working as an aftercare counselor with the Tennessee Department of Correction, Diane went to law school at night. She earned her J.D. from the Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law at the University of Memphis in 1986, graduating in the top third of her class. She received the American Jurisprudence Award in Conflicts of Law. In her last year of law school, Diane took an elective course in advanced real estate finance law, setting the course for her early career choice.
While in law school, Diane met and married Tom Dixon, a native of Chattanooga. Tom and Diane reside in Hixson and have two adult children.
